PowerPoint Goes to Hollywood
ByI found a very interesting book about PowerPoint called “Beyond Bullet Points: Using Microsoft PowerPoint to Create Presentations That Inform, Motivate, and Inspire” recently.
Author Cliff Atkinson describes the idea of using Hollywood storytelling techniques in your PowerPoint presentation — to transform them from a bland, boring presentation of “bullet points” to one of an engaging story.
I’d be very interested to see how a church/pastor uses these techniques in a sermon … email me if you do.
Here are three points he offers on his site:
1. Write a script to focus your ideas.
“The single most important thing you can do to dramatically improve your presentations is to have a story to tell before you work on your PowerPoint file.”
2. Storyboard your script to clarify your ideas.
“With a completed script in hand, a Hollywood filmmaker usually turns to a storyboard artist to sketch selected scenes from the story to show how things will look on screen.”
3. Produce your script to engage your audience.
“Finally, you’ll stretch the Hollywood model of a production into the domain of a live performance, where you engage your audience with sophisticated media tools and techniques.”
