Ed Young’s 8 Insights from Fellowship Church’s new Miami Campus

By Cory Miller

In his CreativePastors.com email newsletter this week, Pastor Ed Young of Fellowship Church in the Dallas area shared some insights from their new campus in Miami, Fla. Evidentally, they merged with an existing congregation.

Here are his 8 insights:

  1. In Miami, they believed direct mail “would have greater potential impact than in other regions where the church advertising market is more saturated.” They gave away $5 gas cards as part of it.
  2. “Banners and signage outside the church are worth every penny.” They leveraged their Internet prowness with those signs and the numbers come to their site.
  3. Used “free marketing” in the form of press releases to local media outlets and got some press out of it.
  4. “Nothing beats one-on-one dialogue.” They believe in relationships and “invest and invite.”
  5. “We work the phones.” Every guest receives a phone call from a staffer.
  6. The listen to the people of Miami and let that “guide our marketing.”
  7. They gave the church building they’re using a facelift. In addition to fresh paint and landscaping, they’re “adding music, Cuban coffee and local pastries to create a welcoming atmosphere.” This is a lesson a lot of churches could use!
  8. “Friendliness is irreplaceable.” They’ve equipped an army of “floaters” or greeters to welcome guests and engage them in conversation.

Thanks for the link, Cory! We had so much content for the newsletter that we couldn’t use it all, so we will be using the overflow in some blog posts this week and next.
