5 Blogging Questions with Granger’s Tim Stevens of LeadingSmart.com
By
As part of the “Blogging 101 for Pastors” series [click here to see all the posts], I’ve been asking several proflic blogging pastors or believers to answer five basic questions about blogging.
Granger Community Church’s Executive Pastor, Tim Stevens, blogs at LeadingSmart. I had the good fortune of interviewing Tim along with his senior pastor, Mark Beeson, a couple of weeks ago for an article for Pastors.com. Along with Tony Morgan, he is the co-author of Simply Strategic Growth, Simply Strategic Volunteers, and Simply Strategic Stuff.
Here are his answers to my 5 questions.
1. Why (or how) did you start blogging?
I blogged about why I’m blogging here.
2. What subject do you post most about?
My focus is helping church leaders. That is my passion. Sometimes that means I’m sharing what worked or didn’t work at Granger; sometimes I’m sharing best practices from business. I’m also passionate about helping leaders see the importance of engaging and leveraging the culture, so I tend to blog about that.
3. What are your favorite blog tools?
I use Bloglines to read/skim a list of about 50 (and growing) blogs; Statcounter helps me track; Typepad is where it is hosted; Feedblitz and Feedburner are good tools for subscrptions.
4. How often do you post?
Not quite every day – more like 5x weekly.
5. What one piece of advice would you give for prospective blogging pastors?
Blogging is about evening the playing field. Everyone has a voice. Someone, somewhere can be helped by what you have to say. However, don’t get too personal. Remember that the people in your church are reading it. The people on your staff are reading it. Your mother is reading it. So you don’t have to say everything that enters your mind. It’s good to have someone with objectivity who you can bounce posts off of before they go “live.”
[[ THANKS, TIM, FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DO THIS! ]]
