Organize Content Into Categories

After you’ve determined what content will need to go on your site by asking questions your target audiences might ask, you’ll need to group the content into categories that will ultimately become the major sections of the web site.


For instance, general information about the church, like its beliefs, history, staff biographies, etc., will most likely go under the “About” section.

Below I’ve listed some of the most frequently posted content for a church and put it into general categories to assist you in categorizing your content:

ABOUT

  • Welcome from the Pastor
  • Pastor’s Page
  • Mission Statement
  • Directions/Map
  • How to Join
  • Beliefs
  • History
  • Contact List of Staff
  • Make a Prayer Request

MINISTRIES/SMALL GROUPS

  • Small groups/Sunday school classes
  • Ministry specific information including weekly activities and events (Static content; doesn’t change)

THIS WEEK/NEWS/EVENTS

  • This Week@Church or News (Bulletin)
  • Calendar
  • Email newsletter
  • Church newsletter

MISSIONS

  • Mission Strategies
  • Upcoming Mission Trips

WORSHIP

  • Services Times and Locations
  • What to expect
  • Childcare
  • Sermons (Cross link also to Resources)

SERVE

  • Opportunities for service
  • How to volunteer

RESOURCES

  • Sermons (MP3s, podcasting)
  • Bible Study resources
  • Small group/Sunday school material resources
  • Online Giving
  • Online Registration

JESUS/GOSPEL PRESENTATION

  • Gospel Presentation
