Blogging Tips: Blogging Your Book, Launching a New Domain or Blog, and Marketing Your Blog

By Cory Miller

Here are some links with commentaries of some really good posts about blogging:

Guest blogger Tony Hung has been giving some excellent blogging advice at ProBlogger while Darren’s off. Today’s article on How to Market Your Blog in 2007 is one I printed off, read over lunch and made all kinds of notes and to-do lists for my blogs.

Writing good content is key to a good blog, at least in my experience. And the insanely popular LifeHacker is an excellent example of good blog writing (that people link to, comment on, and read). So when LifeHacker’s editor Gina Trapeni gives some blogging advice you want to sit up, pay attention and take notes. I wrote a post on this advice over at my Free Marketing Ideas Blog (aka The Napkin) titled 5 Thoughts on Blogging Your Very Own Book.

This quote from Gina though is worth its weight in gold:

“So pick your topic, set up your blog, and post to it obsessively, every single day. Consider blogging every day practice and preparation for when you’ll be writing your manuscript every day. While you’re blogging, it may not seem like you’re working towards a book deal, but you are: every post you do is a tiny bit of research you’ll refer back to later during your manuscript production.”

SEOmoz has a good post on relaunching or launching a new domain name. It’s also disheartening and deflating. Bottomline: It just takes time to launch a new website/blog/domain name before you get some lovin’ from the search engines. They want you to prove your worth, which is good too. In my personal experience, it takes at least six months to really hit your stride with Google.

Kind of off the subject of blogging tips, but James talks about what you should pay for a logo and compares it to buying Starbucks or Folgers. Love the analogy! Most of us want Starbucks at the Folgers price. But as I’ve said before, you get what you pay for!

Dude, I saw that post from problogger earlier today on digg, and I’m with you man. It was an AWESOME resource for bloggers! One of the best articles I’ve ever read (no wonder Darren pulls in 6 figures, huh?)

Nathan, he links to SEOmoz.org in the article … that’s a bookmarkable site too! I’ve used their tips here and done well with them. :-)
