Blogging Tip: Determine Your Post’s Topic or Subject, Then Check Keyword Phrases

By Cory Miller

Here’s a blogging tip I have been using more and more to enhance my search engine results and rankings …

When thinking about writing a new post, once I’ve determined my topic and the main ideas I’m wanting to talk about in the post, I’ll go over to Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool and check the results to see what it pulls up for keyword phrases popularity.

Also, it’s great for turning up synonyms on your topics too. And you might turn up some terms you didn’t think to include, but would naturally integrate into your post.

The key there is do it naturally. Don’t force it. That’s shallow and your readers will pick up on it.

But I try to work the results into my posts … and also … into my headlines and post slugs (the URL of that particular post).

HOW THIS COULD WORK FOR ONLINE MINISTRY:

For instance, when Nathan was thinking about blogging on Intelligent Design and Evolution, which he already has done, he could go over to the AdWords Keyword Tool and plug in “intelligent design” and see what pops up.

Just looking over that (and sorting the results on search popularity), it threw out all kinds of interesting combinations that could actually be great post headlines, like Creation vs. Evolution.

By the way, Nathan’s done an excellent job with this series and topic on his blog. He also did a great job incorporating these hot topic terms and keywords phrases into his posts and headlines and URLs (without any help from me!). And judging from some of his comments, and emails we’ve exchanged, he’s really been leveraging his young blog (it’s just 3 months old!) for ministry, for the Gospel, for Christ!

Keep going, Nathan! Show us how to do ministry online!
