Resource Links for 1/22/07

Posted by: Cory Miller | Comments (0)

>> Public domain image resources from Wikipedia that you could use for worship backgrounds or images. Public domain, of course, means images that are no longer under copyright restrictions.

>> Most Innovative Churches on Squidoo is a neat resource from Church Marketing Sucks that includes links and other resources. (Thanks, Kevin, for the link!)

>> Kent sent me this handy article about blogs titled the 10 Sins of Blog Usability, which has some sharp advice, including my favorite sin — “No Contact Info.” Seriously people, unless you don’t care about anyone sending you an email, put your email addy up or have a contact form. Mine is corymiller303@gmail.com, by the way!

>> Speaking of blogs, Dr. Earl Creps has one seriously rockin’ cool blog. Dr. Creps is director of the Doctor of Ministry program and associate professor at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. I interviewed Dr. Creps for this Pastors.com story on questions a pastor candidate should ask before accepting a church/ministry position.

Blogs by design are meant to be dynamic and highly interactive. The author posts stories on a regular basis and the content of these posts could vary across a variety of topics. The visitor to that blog has the opportunity to add their own content to the site in the way of comments about what the author has written. Soon a conversation begins between the author and the readers.

One easy way to get the conversation started is with the use of a poll. Polls provide a way for a visitor to interact with the site without actually leaving a detailed comment. Visitors can also get a sense of how your community of readers feels about a particular topic by viewing the results of the poll.

As an author, polls provide a “sticky sauce” to help keep visitors on the site reading and interacting with your content. By featuring a “Poll of the Month”, your readers will return to see what the new poll is and to read about the results of the previous poll.

Entry Points

Posted by: James Dalman | Comments (0)

I want to share an idea that I have been seeing more and more of on the web…the use of “entry points” for your church website.

A fellow planter in the Acts 29 Network, Bill Streger, has a church called Kaleo and their website has three main entry points for visitors. You can choose First Time, I’m a Regular, or Give Me Stuff and it is a excellent way to help people find the information they want. In the past, I have had conversations with people who were looking for a church, found a website, and then leave in frustration because they couldn’t find the info they wanted – so I know this idea will be beneficial.

I think that as people spend less and less time in finding a church or listening to your message, that the easier you make it for them to find what they are looking for when they want it, the more successful you will be whether you are a church, business, or non-profit.

Create some entry points.

A Cool Website

I always jump around the web looking for ideas and cool websites that stretch the limits of imagination.  I found a site (a web design company) the other day that breaks the mold called Dizzain.   It is interesting to see how they took creativity and functionality to the limits.   I also like that they get straight to the main point; their offer and their promise on the homepage.  Dizzain shows that you can think out of the box and still have a website that works exceptionally well on the web.

So go ahead and be creative with your website – have great content but make it attractive too! Great job to the team at Dizzain!

I’m in the process of adding some church marketing services to Church Communications Pro and am proud to announce today that I’m now offering custom-designed WordPress themes (templates) for churches and ministries (and of course others!) starting at $350.

Learn more about this service as well as preview some of our work here.

If you don’t know already, WordPress is a free blogging platform that can also be used to easily update websites. [By the way, watch for a new series coming in the next week or so talking about how it can be used to run a small church website.]

And I think if you surf around the web much for custom-designed WordPress themes, you’ll see this is a great price for the work.

ON OFFERING PROFESSIONAL CHURCH MARKETING SERVICES

One of my main objectives for this site is to offer affordable, quality services to churches. In addition to custom WordPress themes, here’s some other services I offer here:

>> Rockin Cool Church Website Design Check out our basic package for $795, which includes one year of website hosting and domain name registration, and more.

>> Website Hosting & Domain Name Registration If you’re looking for quality and affordable website hosting for your church, please check out my hosting plans. The advantage of hosting through me is that you actually know (virtually at least) the human being that offers the service. (And his email address: corymiller303@gmail.com).

Have more questions? Want a free quote on something not listed here? Send me an email.

As always you can email me with questions about this service or any other you’d like to get a quote for.
