Jon Walker, who served under Rick Warren at Saddleback and Purpose Driven Ministries, has released a 23-page ebook on the subject of forgiveness and Michael Vick. Here’s some details from Jon’s site:

Biblical Training just announced that they have Dr. Craig Blomberg’s Introduction to New Testament (Gospels through Acts) online in MP3 format.

Dr. Blomberg is Distinguished Professor of New Testament at Denver Seminary.

Class registration is free as is the entire ministry, of which I’ve benefited from greatly. Obviously, they accept donations and gifts.

One of the best series of audio sermons/lectures I’ve heard on missional living is from Mars Hill Church’s Mark Driscoll called Church, Gospel and Culture from an Acts 29 Network boot camp.

Who and What Is the Emerging Church from a Seminary Professor

My friend and seminary professor Dr. Mark DeVine has an excellent article which will soon be published in the Midwestern Journal of Theology on the emerging church.

From my conversations outside the seminary context, most people don’t have a clue about what or who the emerging church is. And often those who think they do, lump ALL “emerging” churches into one category … liberal. That’s not accurate. It’s a terrible generalization that throws out the good in the hard-to-define “movement.”

The Good Doc is seeking to help clarify all this in his article … and trust me, he’s a conversative, one of the funniest people I’ve ever met, and someone I’m fond of and help whenever I can (blogging).

(If you didn’t get this, I’ll say it in real simple terms so you don’t miss it: He’s love Jesus, affirms every jot and tittle of the Word, and does it all with a Southern drawwwwwwwwlllll.)

Chapell’s Preaching Class Available for MP3 Download via Biblical Training

One of the books I had to read for Preaching classes this semester was Dr. Bryan Chapell’s book Christ-Centered Preaching. Dr. Chapell as you know is president of Covenant Seminary in St. Louis.

Anyway, I was delighted to receive word that his Preaching class is available for FREE MP3 download at Biblical Training.

Microsoft Word Spell Check for Pastors, Seminary Students, Scholars

Travis Carden, who I posted on earlier with his Forbidden page, has a great resource for pastors, biblical scholars or seminary students called the Bible Language Spell-Check Dictionaries.

Basically, it’s a list of biblical words, including “ancient geography, Old Testament units of measure, and Greek names,” that allow you to add custom words to Microsoft Word’s dictionary. [Found via Challies, again!]

Bible Reading Plans for the New Year: A Resource Guide for Pastors

With the New Year coming soon, I thought I’d post some links and resources for Bible Reading Plans. My pastor just asked me about this last week, so I thought I’d pass along what we’re doing too.

At Quail, we’re buying this Bible reading tract from Good News Publishers/Crossway. Originally, we thought we’d do it as a quick, easy, affordable bulletin insert, but our pastor is going to do something different in the service.

The plan we picked is based on the M’Cheyne plan and can be read online here.

One more idea: At our church in Kansas City, they bought a one-year Bible by John MacArthur in bulk and offered them to the congregation at a discounted price.

Saddleback Offers Drive-Time Devotions

Saddleback Church’s Tom Holiday recently announced Daily Drive-Time Devotions, a 10-minute weekday audio podcast.

In an email to the Saddleback Church Family, he wrote:

“Ten minutes a day – that’s about as long as the commercial breaks on talk radio! Whether you listen on your iPod while walking or on a CD while carpooling or on your computer during a break, this small investment of your time will result in a deeper knowledge of the Bible and a stronger relationship with God.”

Currently, he’s going through the book of Romans.

New Testament Backgrounds Class in January 2007

Maybe this is off topic for CCP … but who cares. It’s worth a post.

I just learned that a class I’ve been waiting almost two years for is being offered at Midwestern Baptist Seminary Jan. 8-12.

The class is New Testament Backgrounds, taught by Dr. Alan Tomlinson.

I’m a great admirer of Dr. Tomlinson and his work. For those who know Dr. T, he’s spent most of his life studying the first century culture, life and language.

One of his colleagues and best friends told me that the first time he met Dr. T he had the distinct impression that he might have actually lived in Corinth.

He has probably 1,000-plus PowerPoint slides to show that help light up the NT Scriptures and will walk you through the impact of backgrounds on the New Testament text. (I had the privilege of taking Hermeneutics with him before I left.)

His students love him and adore him. (If you don’t believe me, ask Micah or Ariel.) He spends time with students (more than he probably should!) because he believes in investing in people and has an infectious passion for sharing God’s truth … all the while suffering with constant pain that most us never experience.

BONUS: Go to NT Backgrounds and attend the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Jan. 12-13 with guest speaker Dr. Gary Habermas at the end of the week for $15! Habermas is THE evangelical expert on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But one of the best things about this annual conference is the breakout Saturday sessions with Midwestern’s faculty. Great stuff!

One of my favorite sites is Biblical Training. They got a ton of FREE audio lectures (most in MP3 format) from some of the best evangelical profs around.

Some of my favorites are Dr. Robert Stein (who I had the opportunity to hear in person at Midwestern), Dr. Bruce Ware (great prof from Southern), and How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth Dr. Douglas Stuart.
