I recently have had the opportunity to meet and become great friends with Doug Baker, who is now the editor of Baptist Messenger, Oklahoma’s third largest newspaper ….

He just wrote an editorial called On Baptist Blogging and it includes a great exhortation to all Christian bloggers, here’s a quote from it:

The challenge for the Christian blogger is to both expose and edify in a manner that obeys Jesus’ process of log and speck (Matt. 7:5). Far too often blogging can be both anonymous and autonomous, tricking the writer into thinking that what they write and how they respond represents true community and reality. The real test for great writing is not its spontaneity or immediacy. Rather it is the ability to write in a manner consistent with Christian doctrine and communicated in a manner that seeks to be salt and light in the midst of a very dark world. With this as the goal, there is hope that blogging might truly be used to the glory of God.

I am curious. Do any of our readers or your churches use blogging as a way to build relationships with people in your community or for ministry type purposes? How are you using it and has it been effective? What I am looking for are blogs that teach about Scripture, communicate with unchurched people in a loving way, and share insights into following Christ…blogs whose obvious focus is on Jesus and not necessarily religion, politics, or book promotions.

If you know of some, would you please share their link or website address? I am looking for some great resources to pass along and also doing some “loose” research on the effectiveness of ministry blogs. Thanks!

I can’t tell you how excited and blessed I am to be given this opportunity here at Church Communications Pro and to be able to explore new territory! I have all kinds of ideas jumping around in my head but I know that I am going to have to pace myself and learn some new skills and take time to do this right. I am going to share a bit of what I envision happening here at some point:

Great interviews and Q & A Sessions with some really cool people from a variety of church backgrounds, visions, and skills. I love learning from others in the trenches and hope this will be a sweet addition.

Pre-designed and Open Source products such as sermon branding kits, blog headers, website skins, connect cards, and more. I have stuff I have been working on for some time as well as have a few talented designers who will be contributing their stuff as well.

Guest writers who will contribute excellent articles in their area of gifting or skill sets.

Consulting for churches

Sponsorship opportunities and additional resources

These are just a few ideas that I have, but what I am requesting is feedback from you, the Church Communications Pro readers. What are your suggestions for improving or building upon the foundation here? What would be beneficial for your church or ministry? How can I make CCP even better? Please think about providing your two cents to me personally or responding here in the comment section. I really appreciate it!

Over the next couple of weeks I will be tweaking and changing – and hopefully I don’t totally mess everything up! BTW – I really dig the new WordPress platform as it is more visually appealing and seems to make getting around in it easier.
